Lasipalatsi is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion, an outdoor exhibition has opened on Lasipalatsi Square, showcasing the block’s eventful history in the heart of Helsinki. The photographs take the viewer from the ruins of the Turku Barracks to the newly completed Lasipalatsi in 1936, its shops, restaurants and film screenings at Bio Rex, as well as the atmosphere of the popular 1990s TV programme Jyrki. The exhibition concludes with the present day, the construction of the Amos Rex museum and the renovation of the Kulttuurikasarmi building. Together, the images form a journey through time of a place that has captured the hearts of Helsinki’s residents for ninety years.
