Café Java

In the 2009-2012 City magazine’s Great Restaurant poll, Cafe Java was voted the best café in the city. As a result of the voting, Java has been well known throughout the city. Below is the opening story from the magazine interview.

Opened in 1999 in the Lasipalatsi, Café Java took over new ownership in 2003. Efe Mermer, who had admired the café culture in the US during his MBA exchange year, was able to realise his dream of owning his own café. “We redid everything: the interior, the coffee, the food,” says Mermer.

“Cafe Java is a classic among city dwellers. In this corner café you can enjoy fresh lunch salads, wine glasses, good coffee and sweet treats! “Java has been around for so long that everyone knows it. It’s a bit of a landmark.”

In the same way that the success story began, it has continued. As it was two decades ago, evolution and innovation over time has always been a part of Java and will continue to be so. That’s why Java is still a big part of Helsinki. As the city, people and times change, so does Java to serve its customers in the best possible way.
