The renovations are complete, the scaffolding has been dismantled and Lasipalatsi Square is again ready to welcome all with open arms to the city’s most iconic hills. We’re kicking off the season with a three-day celebration of Spring and May Day (Vappu) and everyone’s invited!

Come and meet artist Kim Simonsson’s Moss Giants, an exhibition brought by Amos Rex, enjoy musical performances, dance, have a city picnic at the long tables and hang out on the hills. The event is open to all, free of charge and without an age limit.

Of course, the restaurant terraces are also open, with happy hour specials during the opening week of the square.

Bubbling terrace offers on May Day:

At La Torrefazione, an end-of-the-Vap cocktail for €30/bottle and a picnic bag for two for €30.

Fill up your picnic hamper from La Torrefazione, Torre’s picnic bag for two includes your choice of filled ciabatta, cold drinks and donuts.

A popcorn dish (2l) from the Kulttuurikasarmi for only €1, bring your popcorn to the square!

The programme of the May Day party

29.4. opening concert at 5 PM: Krista Siegfrids

Join us on 29th April at 5 PM to celebrate the grand re-opening, featuring a bubbly performance by the brilliant artist Krista Siegfrids. To add to the festivities, the first 500 visitors will be treated to free green ice cream by Söderlångvik Glass, in the spirit of the enormous green Moss Giants that adorn the square.

30.4. May Day party from 15–19, DJ Bunuel and dance studio Fokus

Dance classes and performances from Dancemix to After Work Dance on the square stage. Dancers and teachers represent dance studio Fokus in the heart of Punavuori:

Legendary artist DJ Bunuel will provide music to get you in the party mood. No limits, just good music! DJ Bunuel builds a musical pearl necklace of gems, where years and stylistic boundaries disappear, with song selections spanning from the 1920s to March next year.

1.5. Long table May Day picnic 11–16, Sami Saari and Jazzpojat, Trio N O X

A long picnic table will be set up in the Lasipalatsi Square, bringing everybody together around the same table in the spirit of May Day. If you have left your own picnic lunch at home, you can pick up something to eat from the restaurants in the Kulttuurikasarmi and Lasipalatsi, see offers above! No reservations are accepted for the picnic table, which can accommodate around 120 persons.

Sami Saari and Jazzpojat will serve up some ear-catching and danceable jazz and soul while Trio N O X will play great string versions of evergreen tango classics to Swallow the Sun.
